In 1965, Eric North found Basket Lake while surveying woodcutting roads for the Dryden Paper Company. During the following winter he built a small wooden boat and in the spring hauled it to the lake. The fishing was terrific and in 1967 he cleared a road to the lakeshore and built an icehouse and small dock. In 1968, he and Olga built three guest cabins. In 1974, Eric died and Olga continued to gradually expand the business. Olga died on May 24th, 2010 after a courageous battle. She fought very hard to get well enough to return to her cherished Basket Lake family. Her ashes are buried at the camp and marked with a granite stone. We all miss her but her spirit is with us always.
